Drink Your Way to Younger-Looking Skin

We all know we should ditch the soda and drink water instead. But water isn’t the only healthy option! There are other beverages that are not only healthy, but can also give our skin an anti-aging boost.  Read on for tips to drink your way to more youthful skin.

3 Healthy DIY Anti-Aging Juices

A varied diet of whole fruits, veggies, and grains is advised for overall health and anti-aging. But that doesn’t mean you have to just eat them. Here are three foods that work wonders in liquid form as well.

1. Carrots

Carrot juice provides a rich source of beta-carotene, which the body converts into vitamin A (or retinol). If retinol sounds familiar, it’s because it’s in almost every anti-aging cream out there. And for good reason. Retinol is proven to help reduce wrinkles, fade age spots, soften skin, and impart a healthy glow. Carrots are also great sources of vitamin C and potassium. Vitamin C helps produce collagen; and potassium aids in hydrating skin cells and treating scars.

2. Beets

Beetroot juice has numerous health and beauty benefits. Containing vitamin A, vitamin C, and numerous nutrients, beets can help repair and prevent dry skin, keeping skin supple and glowing. Its high levels of folates and antioxidants are powerful wrinkle fighters.

3. Tomatoes

Tomato juice is famous for a carotenoid called lycopene. A strong antioxidant, lycopene helps prevent wrinkles by boosting the collagen in your skin. Its claim to fame, however, is the potential to protect against harmful UV radiation — one of the main culprits that ages skin. With its ability to fight free radicals and defend against environmental stressors, the humble tomato deserves a place at every table.

Mix it Up!

Start with a base of one of these, and then juice any number of additional fruits, veggies, or herbs for an extra anti-aging punch and/or endless variety of flavors. Apples, cucumber, watermelon, spinach, or kale are great to add. Other ideas include:

  • Parsley — full of vitamins A, C and K. The vitamins and nutrients in parsley can help reduce redness of the skin and stimulate collagen production.
  • Ginger — contains essential vitamins and minerals like magnesium, potassium, manganese, and vitamin B6. Ginger has been shown to even skin tone and inhibit collagen breakdown — both contributing to keeping skin looking youthful.
  • Watercress — A little bit goes a long way! Watercress is an anti-aging superfood. It contains high concentrations of Vitamin A, Vitamin C, calcium, iron, folate, and especially sulfur (which is needed to produce collagen).
  • Cabbage — contains antioxidants and nutrients like vitamins A, C, E, K, B1, B6, iron, sulfur, iodine, and more. Among other benefits, cabbage juice will help your skin defend against free radicals.

If you’re one of those people who struggle to drink water because it’s “tasteless” or “boring”, mix it up by adding some healthy anti-aging juices into your rotation. They’re not only good for your skin, but your whole body!
