What is Botox?
Botox is a neuromodulator. When injected into the muscles of the face, it paralyzes them making them incapable of movement. It works only on active muscles of the face such as the glabella (between your eyebrows), forehead and crow’s feet. By stopping its movement Botox causes facial muscles to atrophy, weakening them. At Hawaii Blue, Botox is our #1 procedure. We do more Botox than anything else. It is proven to correct wrinkles and backed by over 20 years of scientific research.
How often do I need Botox?
With repeated use, Botox allows the lines and wrinkles of your face fade away. If you receive Botox on a regular basis, it is possible to extend treatment time from 3-4 months to only twice a year. For myself, once my Botox wears off, my wrinkles stay away for at least 30 days. When I start to see the movement and lines start to return, I simply get another treatment!
How much does Botox cost?
At Hawaii Blue, we charge $13 per unit. The number of units depends on the depth of wrinkles, age and skin condition. Average amounts are 50 units for glabella, forehead and crow’s feet treated. We use between 24-30 units for the glabella (frown lines between your eyebrows). Crow’s feet take between 6-12 units. If you don’t use enough Botox in an area, you will not get the improvement you need. When we recommend a dose, it is to give you the best possible result. We can do less units but the end result will not be what it should be.
Is Botox safe?
Yes, Botox has been used millions of times for medical aesthetics. When injected by a skilled doctor or physician’s assistant, it is perfectly safe. Slight bleeding and bruising may occur. Complications are rare but include migration of the product causing a droopy eyelid. Rubbing at the injection site increases the risk. If you follow our pre and post treatment instructions, it will lessen the chance of complications.
What are all the areas that can be treated with Botox?
We can treat the forehead, glabella, crow’s feet, masseter muscles of the jaw (to correct a square jaw from teeth grinding or TMJ), platysmal bands of the neck (for a nonsurgical neck lift), bunny lines on the nose, DOA around the corners of the mouth, and a lip flip (above the lip to correct a gummy smile or disappearing upper lip).
Does getting Botox hurt?
We numb for Botox and use extremely small needles. It is a painless procedure!
