Low Body Fat and Premature Aging

When you look in the mirror, are you happy?

For many women, the answer is no.

In 2014 when I was full swing into my Ironman training, my body fat registered at 14%. I weighed 112 pounds (I am 5’3”). For women, that is pretty low. Only athletic women fall into that range. A lean woman is considered to have 21-25%. A normal woman will average between 26-31% and an overweight woman has 32-39% body fat. Anything higher than that is considered obese.

I worked my butt off to have body fat that low. I was training 20+ hours weekly. I loved the lean, muscular look of my body but noticed that my face began to look a bit haggard. I looked in the mirror and didn’t like what I saw.

It was then that I discovered how medical aesthetics could help!

A small bit of body fat actually makes you look younger. By gaining a few pounds of body fat, our face fills out and features soften. I know this flies in the face of typical beauty standards but that’s ok. I’m not saying to gain 15 lbs. But 4-5 lbs of healthy weight can make a big difference.
