The Avocado Beauty Regimen

Let’s take a look at one of nature’s mightiest fruits. Why? Because not only does it provide numerous health benefits, it also helps prevent signs of aging skin!

Avocados may be most famous for guacamole (or if you’re a millennial, avocado toast!), but when you start thinking about them in the context of anti-aging, the science backs it up! Avocados are loaded with healthy fats, vitamins, antioxidants, and nutrients. They have the highest levels of protein and the lowest amount of sugar of any fruit. They are rich in fiber and low in carbs. It’s no surprise that the avocado has risen to the status of superfood!

You can use avocados in a variety of ways to promote your skin health. Here is how you can start a daily avocado beauty regimen of your own.

1. Eat Avocados for Skin Health

The health benefits of eating avocados will naturally reflect in your skin as well. One study has shown that eating healthy fats like those found in avocados results in increased skin elasticity — bouncier, more supple skin.

Avocados are especially rich in vitamins C and E. Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant which fights free radical damage. Vitamin C is necessary for collagen synthesis. When combined, vitamins C and E boost the properties of one another, multiplying the benefits! Other antioxidants in avocados also help to support healthy skin, preventing wrinkles and UV damage.

There are endless ways to enjoy avocados in your diet! As mentioned, there’s guacamole and avocado toast, but avocado can also be mixed into smoothies, chopped and added to salads, or even blended to make chocolate pudding! Experiment on your own with ways to incorporate this delicious fruit into your diet.

2. Make DIY Avocado Face Masks

Using DIY avocado face masks regularly will moisturize skin, brighten your complexion, and fight acne. Avocado face masks can give your skin an intense boost of nutrients and moisture.

The simplest method is to take the inside of an avocado peel and massage it onto your face, leaving the residue on for a few minutes before rinsing off.

Mixing a ripe avocado together with other ingredients will provide additional benefits. Common ingredients are coconut oil, honey, yogurt, lemon, and oats. You can find countless avocado mask recipes through an online search. Find one that works for you!

3. Apply Avocado Oil to your Skin

Avocado oil provides the benefits of an avocado mask, but you don’t need to rinse it off! Avocado oil absorbs easily into the skin. All of the fatty acids, antioxidants, and nutrients in avocado oil will help to reduce inflammation, promote collagen production, and heal dry skin.

Use avocado oil alone or customize it with essential oils that also promote skin health, like rosemary or lavender. If you don’t want to make your own avocado oil blend, you might not need to! Check the labels on your favorite facial products. Many mainstream facial products use avocado oil as an ingredient.
